Apparently... you can tie a weight onto the handle and let it be an enticing dangle. Reward the cat when they inadvertently flush when playing.
It was also mentioned that once they learn how to flush, some cats never stop. Flush and watch the swirl, flush and watch the swirl, flush, etc.
