Toilet Training FAQ: Sitz Bath

  1. What in the world is a Sitz Bath

The Sitz Bath is an alternative to using a metal bowl or plastic wrap. Its intended use is, apparently, for use with humans to aid with hemeroid issues.

  2. Where can I get one?

You can get it at most drug stores. I got a few from CVS but they may need to be special ordered. The cost is ~$12.

  3. Why should I use a Sitz Bath instead of a metal bowl or plastic wrap?

A Sitz Bath might be preferred over a metal bowl or plastic wrap because of its sturdiness and because it is plastic. Because it is sturdy, it will support the weight of your cat should he be standing in it, thus avoiding a fall into the toilet which would surely mean the end of training. Because it is plastic you will be able to cut holes in it (for future stages) much easier than you would with the metal bowl.

  4. My litter-loving cat pushes it all in the toilet and then whines about it. Is there anything I can do to stop that while still having a hole in the Sitz Bath?

    Yes and here's one solution.
Wash and dry the Sitz Bath. Take a couple of tubes of Elmer's (or whoever's) Glue and spread the glue around the bottom of the sitz, sprinkle the fine-grained flushable litter all over and let dry. Now when your cat pushes the litter into the toilet....there will still be a coating of litter "crazy-glued" to the sitzbath to give the "appearance" of litter still there. They can still paw at it and feel the roughness under their pads.
